Living a Quality Life… My Word of The Year For 2019!!

Have you ever been asked to come up with your word (or phrase) of the year? It seems that this pops up so often as we head into a brand-new year, brimming with possibility.  Last year, I chose “Be Present” and to be completely honest…I feel like I failed miserably with honoring that one. So, when I was tasked with coming up with this year’s word, it took me a couple of weeks to come up with one that suited all that I wanted for this year.  And then it hit me while I was walking down my stairs one afternoon. Quality is what I want for 2019… and in so many different areas of my life.

First and foremost, I want Quality time spent with my children.  It is so easy to run around with the activities and obligations of a Mom of three, a wife and a “Mompreneur” running her own business.  Sometimes you just roll through the moments of each day, without truly enjoying them. And the truth is, your kids notice! Just last week, I brought my daughter to her weekly Ninja class and I was quickly sending out a text.  I don’t even recall what the text was about, but she looked at me and said watch me. So, I set a goal that when I go to Ninja class, or basketball with my son or any of my kid’s activities, I am going to enjoy watching what they are learning and accomplishing (to the best of my abilities) every time I am there, without being distracted by my phone.  It won’t be perfect, and I know that, but it is a goal that I can certainly strive for. I want to spend Quality time with my preschooler when he comes home from school in the afternoon. Next year he is going to be in Kindergarten, so this is my last time to have him home with me for lunch during the week and to truly enjoy this time with him before he is in school all day in September (P.S. that doesn’t mean I am not crazy excited about full-day school in September!!).  I also want Quality family time at home, with no obligations to be anywhere else. Lazy mornings in pajamas, afternoons playing with toys, game nights and movie nights at home on the couch. I am searching for ways to keep more white space on my calendar and to not fill every single minute with somewhere to be. Sometimes it means saying No to an event, or No to the birthday party that would make the day complete chaos. It is a tough challenge to be free from obligations and have absolutely nothing to do, but it is so worth it!!

Quality kiddo time and Quality family time is different than Quality time with my hubby.  It is something that we so desperately need!

We are very often like two ships passing in the night.  With three kids, work obligations and every once and a while a social engagement, we spend the time splitting up duties and very frequently running in opposite directions.

So, in 2019, I really want to increase our Quality time spent together, just as husband and wife. In my household, my children are often finally in bed at a somewhat obscene hour (like 10:30 by the time all is said and done), so catching up before bed or watching some TV together seems often impossible.  The great thing is that I know he wants to spend Quality time together with me too, so as we learn the busy life of parents with three active kids, we need to re-focus on making time for each other. Maybe we will have to go out more often together or make it a priority to carve out time for ourselves at home, but we are going to work on it.

Sleep!! I need more Quality sleep.  I know that for sure. I already mentioned that my kids go to bed at what I often feel is an obscene time.  Don’t get me wrong, I have my moments where I cherish the time and the thought that all three of my kiddos still want me to lay with them when I put them to bed, but it is most certainly putting a crimp on my own sleep schedule.  I am trying to be more efficient throughout the day, prioritizing my daily tasks and accepting when they are not finished at the end of the day. This way, when we do finally get home, eat dinner and everyone is winding down, I don’t need to come down to my office and start working at 11:00 PM.  There will, of course, be those days that I am working peacefully in my office until 1:00 AM, but I plan to do that a lot less frequently. I am a better Mom, Wife, and person when I get Quality sleep!!

What else do I have to add to this already long list?  I need more Quality peaceful time spent in my home. Like so many of us, we constantly battle the clutter that comes along with a busy life and busy children.  Papers strewn about the kitchen counter, Legos on the floor, socks in every corner of every room and general chaos in my home have me feeling very frequently stressed and overwhelmed on a daily basis in my own space.  I am excited for the prospect of change! I’m about halfway through Marie Kondo’s book, “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” and I can’t wait to check out the series on NetFlix. Her system and suggestions are brilliant, and yet I find myself stressed out about even having time to go through the process of Tidying Up.  Yet, I know in my heart, that it will bring me so much peace and calm that I desperately need. So, I’m just about ready to Buckle Up and to get started (once I finish the book that is)!!

In 2019, I am focused on spending Quality time on my Norwex business!!  I am absolutely an over-achiever, and I know that the world is my oyster with Norwex.  The possibilities excite me and sometimes keep me up at night. Not to mention, it really doesn’t feel like work, so it can be hard to stop.  This year, I want to try and do a better job of tracking my time and making sure that I am spending my time on Quality activities. Sometimes I sit down on the computer to respond to e-mails or pay my bills, and I find myself trolling through Facebook for an hour.  Hopefully, I’m not alone there! Clearly, this is not a Quality use of my time. I want to spend my time building Quality relationships and moving my business forward productively every day.

Wow… as I proofread this blog, it seems like an overwhelming list for 2019.  But, at the same time, I don’t think that I am really asking for too much. I just need to be more mindful of where and how I am spending my time and re-invent some habits.  I’ll keep you posted on my progress and on my 2019 Quest for a Life filled with Quality!!
